Flora of the Alpine meadow

Alpine areas are unique because of the severity and complexity of their environmental conditions. Alpine meadows form where sediments from the weathering of rocks has produced soils well-developed enough to support grasses and sedges. Some plants flower immediately after snow melting or soil thawing. These early flowering plants always form their flowers in the previous season, called preformation. Approximately half of all alpine species flower in mid-season.

  10. Awesome shots! I love the last one of the wild strawberry, also called alpine strawberry. They don't grow here in the US as they do in my homeland (Bosnia) so I ordered them online and planted in my backyard. They are super sweet :) Thanks for sharing with Thursday Favorite Things and hope you have an amazing weekend!

  13. The alpine flowers are wonderful, I like the striped petals of the first and the form and patterns of the purple ones- I see cloaked men with helmets in them. the Six-spot Burnet moth is gorgeous, the same colors but different patterns than the Cinnabar Moth that has been imported where I live. The alpine strawberry looks luscious, I have some I have grown from seed that are bearing strawberries now.
