Piran is a small and very picturesque town is located in Slovenia on the Gulf of Piran on the Adriatic Sea. The name of the town most probably originates from the Greek "pyrranos", which means "red", because of the reddish flysch stones commonly found in the town's area. Of the competing theories, is that it is derived from "pyr", the Greek word for "fire", because the peninsula was originally used primarily as a grounds for lighting fires to guide ships to the nearby settlement of Aegida. The city has a very rich and turbulent history. The area of present-day Piran was settled by Illyrian tribes who were farmers, hunters and fishermen. In the next centuries the Piran peninsula was a part of Roman Empire, Byzantium Empire, Holy Roman Empire, Venetian Republic, French Empire, and Austro-Hungarian Empire. Piran - located in southwestern Slovenia on the Adriatic Sea - is one of the most photogenic cities in the Mediterranean. The landscape of this beautiful coastal town located in the peninsula is dominated by the massive walls on the hills above the city. The first wall was built in the 7th century, separating the town into four streets. In the next centuries the wall was moved south-west when the city were expanded.  Significant parts of the fortification walls (15th - 16th century) are well-preserved. Its northern part is accessible for tourists.

The Ljubljanica is the main watercourse in Ljubljana. With its picturesque bridges and beautiful old city centre embankments, is one of Ljubljana's business card. The Ljubljanica owes its appearance to the architect Jože Plečnik, who designed the old city centre's river embankments. The architect restored the river to the city. He renewed the old bridges and built new bridges, including the famous Trnovo Bridge, Cobblers' Bridge and Triple Bridge. A mighty Ljubljana Castle is located on Castle Hill above the downtown of city. It is a key element of the Ljubljana skyline and is a symbol of the Slovenian capital. Probably a first Medieval fortress was built from wood and stone in the 11th century and rebuilt repeatedly in the 12th, 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. Present appearance it acquired in 17th centuries. The castle was the seat of the lords of Carniola and then it was used as a penitentiary, and as a residential complex. In the latest times it is a tourist attraction and cultural venue. Ljubljana Castle offers the most beautiful views of Ljubljana and its surrounding areas. The castle is also a main cultural venue.
